About The Artwork

'vleugelmens' ( 'wingman') (edition 3/8) is a drawing in glass. It is made with fusing technique, which means that pieces of glass are melted in a kiln. With the work I wanted to express different feelings. It all starts with making tiny drawings. Some of these I make big in glass. Often I don't have a clear picture of what the drawing is about, it takes time for me to figure out. Other people may see different things. On one hand the winged person has only one wing, which makes it seem incompleet. On the other hand the wing is an extra, it can be an extra strenght, something divine. No one can do everything, but one can try to do the best one can, and then who knows. Later on Ifound a postcard saying: ‘We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embraching one another.’ By Luciano De Crescendo Very beautifull and fitting.

What do you experience as a person among other people? And how do you deal with everything that is going on in the world? With my sculptures, I give form to emotions. To feelings as vulnerability, strength, power, powerlessness, loneliness, and connectedness. Many sculptures are not sprouht from one source. Often many thoughts and feelings are fused in one sculpture. Materials I work with are glass, ceramics, bronze, textiles, and composites. Often you only see part of a person or animal. There are inter-growths between man, plant, and tree. Sometimes you only just see something human-like. I'm a dutch artists working in Leiden, I have studio in a big creative complex. My work consists of autonomous works and works for public space and buildings. Some of my works are collected by musea and private collectors. I am a member of 'sculpture network Europe' and the 'Dutch circle of sculptors'
