Theda Gutenberg enjoyed drawing, creativity and painting since she was a little child. She recieved her first profound art experiences at the St. Leonard´s College in Melbourne/Australia. She new since ever that she has to go the art path. Going to the university of Media and Arts in Hannover she studied Design and part time art classes. At this point she was more a Designer than an artist. She was too close to the thinking of her parents home. She recieved two DAAD scholarships for Somerset´s College of Fine Arts in Taunton, England and the University of Design Hangzhou/China. After all that education going straightly through she kept going to the field of working as a fashion designer and costume designer. She tried to work as expected but after some years too much body pain forced her to look for a different path. That has been the moment where she started with heaps of inner work, which took her step by step closer to what her heart wants. Also she gained more and more liberty. She remembers how hard it has been not to name what she is doing. She did not know by herself only her heart did. Just the amounts of her steps created something new where no naming is needed. All these steps took chains, took borders and limits in her head. Wow how thankful she is while gaining for leaving. During all these processes she drew and painted what her soul had to say. She found out as a woman artist she is going cyclic through a death birth process like you find in nature becoming and going. This cycle helps her to let go and to recieve new. She says it also has to do with her strong experience as a child seeing her mothers „count down“ going through breast cancer, losing her two breasts and dying when she had her 1st day of school. 30 years later she worked on a Jewish cementery transform this death of her mother to her own living. Symbolic she went into a grave and steping out of the grave with the ladder she decided then for living. During this time she has created work which helped her to believe in giving birth to every new day. Also she lived part time in Madrid, Barcelona and Berlin to experience more than to be just a trained brain. During all that time she developed in her way of drawing and painting. After all these dramatic dark drawings she nowadays shows in her way of painting the enjoyment of life. Nowadays she says it is not on vogue to suffer. Be your own perfume of life. Wow to get at this point she had to peal many skins.
