The work has been inspired by one lockdown walk in Nottinghamshire from the poet Lord Byron's home in Newstead Abbey UK. The work alludes to the freedom found whilst walking despite the restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic & the poetic wonder of the landscape that inspired Lord Byron. The piece uses 6 photographs from this one walk which by cutting up retain an element of the 'real' but as a whole becomes abstracted, to evoke the release I find whilst walking.

My art practice is situated in a culture of walking engaging with the nature & substance of landscape drawing on and drawing with the environment in which I step. I'm particularly drawn to 'edgeland' spaces, ones that mediate the transition from urban to rural landscapes; their ephemeral & transient qualities. The work has concerns that touch upon the fleeting nature of the sublime, and how stepping out can be the salve that reconnects us to the wonder of the world.
