When Hokusai’s eternal wave meets Warhol’s factory of repetition, the ocean turns into a symbol — multiplied, recolored, immortal. Masayoshi Oki is an architectural director and speculative architect based in Tokyo, Japan. His work operates at the intersection of architecture, culture, and spatial narratives, bridging built reality and conceptual exploration. With extensive experience in architecture, urban development, and real estate, he has led projects ranging from commercial spaces to large-scale developments. This practical foundation informs his speculative work, where architecture is treated not as a fixed solution, but as a medium for questioning underlying systems of society, economy, and human behavior. His recent series, Speculative Architecture: Wine as Human Condition, explores wine as a cultural and spatial device—embodying time, power, ritual, and desire. Through AI-assisted processes, these invisible forces are translated into immersive architectural environments. Rather than proposing immediate construction, his work presents spatial prototypes that examine how environments shape perception, hierarchy, and collective experience. By moving between architecture as practice and architecture as thought, he expands the role of architectural direction into a broader field of spatial and cultural strategy.
