ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This artwork is hand painted using Old Master painting techniques on a digital screen and then the painting is converted onto canvas as the final physical artwork. ABOUT THE PAINTING: Following on from my recently completed Montenegro-inspired series, this painting is the third work in my new series called ‘Places of Magic’ which continues to celebrate the magical mystique of country-specific scenery—this time expanding to other countries I have spent time living in including France. INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTWORK: The artist’s name and date of creation is on the back of the artwork along with the declaration that the work is a limited edition artwork. The canvas comes stretched on a handcrafted wooden frame and is handmade in the United Kingdom. The artwork comes ready to hang, with a free wall-hanging kit included. INSPIRATION: I first used this very scene as a muse for a ball point pen illustration which I drew on site during my stay in the unforgettable town of Bayeux, Normandy. The village was very fairytale-like, with quaint little shopfronts and a magnificent cathedral, and the village square scene was something I simply had to draw. This time I painted it. —It is my hope that whomever welcomes this piece into their home, (whether they already have a personal connection to the town, or with France in general.... or merely feel drawn to it without prior reason), feels the same magic and childlike daydreaming that I felt whilst there and whilst painting it.

Drawing since 3 and having his first public art exhibition curated by teachers at age 4, Romeo Varga is a multi award winning international self-taught artist whose technical precision and artistic diversity has led him to be commissioned by global clients including Microsoft, Samsung, L’Oréal, Westfield, Johnson & Johnson, Lexus, Audi, Airbnb, Virgin, NewsCorp and Deloitte. His non finito portrait painting series has been written about in The Healing Power of Art and Artists magazine and one of the works has been selected for a juried international online art exhibition. In October 2023 Romeo was a successful finalist in a US-based international juried portrait and figurative art competition for two of his classical portrait paintings. The competition received submissions from artists across four continents and 14 countries including Canada, UK, Germany, Italy and China. He has also received several awards for his digital matte paintings in North American international art competitions including the Gold Award in the ‘Black and White XI International Juried Art Exhibition’ and Honorable Mention in the ‘13th Annual Open Art Competition’. Each of the competitions received hundreds of entries from across four continents.
