ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The head of a man concealed among ink spots, stains, and streaks can be caught by a meticulous and attentive viewer. This unique piece of art was created by an uncontrolled interaction between water and ink. I adore monotype because of its unpredictability and the rich variety of images it can awake in my and viewer's mind. When you take this monotype you expect to hold a thick glossy paper after contact with water and ink which is why it's a little bit wavy as it was all wet.

Oleksandr Naumiuk is a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist who works primarily in oil painting and a graphic technique called 'monotyping'. Oleksandr was born in Lutsk, Ukraine. His passion for painting can be traced from early childhood and resulted in his studying at the local Art School and later at the Institute of Arts at Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University. While exploring ways of traditional painting and studying such disciplines as anatomy, composition, sculpture, etc he always made an effort to find an appropriate way of self-expression with the help of art. Diving deeply into the history of Arts and other related subjects influenced some core changes in his attitude towards the world. A 4-year break has begun. After the gap, Oleksandr reconsidered himself as a painter and started creating with a new wave of passion and strong motivation to express his feelings and thoughts, attitudes and observations, conclusions, and sometimes fallacies using a language of form, color, composition rather than words. Nowadays, completely absorbed by the monotyping technique he tries to be a guide, a mediator for the characters and images to be exposed, to appear and become visible to everyone. Adding a tiny human touch to the almost uncontrolled process of creating a piece of art makes it unique and impossible to reproduce manually. Oleksandr values, enjoys, and appreciates every moment he dedicates to art.
