This is my hand-made pencil drawing of the brave Pretty Nose Pretty Nose (1851) was an Arpano woman who participated in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Through painting I create documentation, an intimate diary. I engage with self-portraiture, body image, and the experience of my marriage with Khaled—a Jewish-Arab partnership. I focus on moments of soft femininity, which are also expressed in masculinity and fatherhood. In the past two years we've lived in a war zone, an evacuated kibbutz, and this experience of pregnancy and childbirth under missiles has left its mark on my paintings. Through painting I seek to grant recognition to seemingly banal moments in which I find beauty and softness, alongside peak moments like my son's birth—moments that would have remained invisible had I not documented them. In my experience, I lack control in a chaotic, changing world marked by fear of aging and death. In contrast, painting offers immortality, control, and infinite freedom. My primary mediums are oil paints on canvas and markers on paper.
