The images presented in The Antomist's ‘Islaanders’ series are made by manipulating photographed surfaces from real world environments. Taken from a particular building or architectural space, each series mimics and abstracts the surroundings of a specific point in the artists life. Cut up, redacted and reimagined, standout textures in the images and oblique reproductions are outlined as if cartographed one-to-one scale maps. Representing a visual analogy of Pierre Schaffer’s music Concrète compositions, a memory of space forms around and through the presented phenomenological constructs. A point in time as relatable to the presented image as the memory of that abstracted space. The outline serving as an overview of our easily recallable cognisance, while the digitally manipulated scans form a chaotic malaise exemplifying often elusive detail orientated recollections. A physical space or building, the textures were taken from representative of an island of sorts. One moved to or from at periodic points during our day, the embarkation and destination being points of reference, but the journey between often lost, as if we travel a safe island in a dangerous sea.

"I focus on the smaller picture, detail is an impulse, this has been so for as long as I remember. The texture of rock, wood or concrete, in the panorama. The sound of a distant something, glimpsed between the howl of the of the wind or the blast of traffic, has always been an inspiration. My work comes from the rubbings of floors, walls, paper, wood & stone, the scraping of paint, delicate cuts to wood, hands-on things that dry my skin, many of which are then manipulated digitally. Formed from a passion in experimentation, in dirt, dust and noise. From the other, the unexpected unruly anomaly being allowed to find it's way between the herald of the bigger picture." I have been creating visual works since around 2003, initially alongside music and later alongside writing and sculptural forms. Currently based in Berlin, many early works are lost to time and space in Bristol, London and Wales. Long form ambient music from my musical aliases, are available here: And here:
