Street art influenced work on cotton rag paper. Mixed media; acrylic, watercolour, gesso, crayon and collage.I use staples to attach the paper to a board for painting, so the edges have staple holes, which can be framed with or without them showing. I’m drawn to being surrounded by landscapes—not simply as pictures on a wall, but as environments I can mentally and emotionally enter. For me, painting landscapes isn’t just about representing a location; it’s about capturing a sensation, a mood, a space to exist within. It allows me to construct a world that feels calm, open, and grounding in contrast to the noise of everyday life. In my practice, landscapes act as places of quiet retreat. They don’t belong to one specific geography but emerge from a blend of memory, imagination, and feeling. I’m interested in the subtle power of a horizon, the way color can carry atmosphere, and how recurring elements—skies, land, trees—create a visual rhythm that feels both comforting and expansive. Choosing to live among these works is a conscious decision. It’s a way of shaping my surroundings into something that reflects a need for stillness and space, where inside and outside begin to merge. These landscapes aren’t about escape; they’re about creating a way of seeing and experiencing the world that feels more present, more reflective, and quietly connected to a sense of place—real or imagined. Carol’s work is collected internationally and held in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia, France, Italy, Dubai and Israel.
