A Zapotec woman goes to the market accompanied by her iguana. These animals are kept as pets but often are ingredients in the traditional cuisine of the Mexican South. The yellow background is reminiscent of the sunsets we can enjoy in Guerrero and Oaxaca, the land of the iguanas.

My work is inspired by Mexico and its culture. I love to tell and represent the myths, legends, and ways of life of pre-Hispanic people such as the Aztecs, and Maya. Also, today’s ethnic groups, alive and vibrant. I moved to the United States after marrying my Connecticut-born husband. I started showing my paintings at local galleries and getting mentions in newspapers. In Connecticut, I discovered a new life. Seascapes, sailboats, lighthouses, whales, and blue-eyed people started appearing in my work. Later I found Native Americans. They are stunning.
