ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is a man i met in Khaelitsha Township, near Cape Town South Africa. The incredibly beautiful masks i found in that country inspired me to make a painting of a face with these masks. With earth colors, the texture of sand, the shimmering of gold in the light on the face of the man, the portrait gets a timeless atmosphere, dreamy, nostalgic maybe. It promises treasures and hidden wisdom, passed from one generation on to the other. On the background you see South African newspapers in different languages, in English, Xosa, with zebras and modern newspaper articles. The face and masks have been painted with oil.
