Filadelfa Rodriguez is a Filipina artist creating abstract works shaped by rhythm, emotion, and the organic movement of form. Her process often begins with loose sketches inspired by spontaneous visual flashes, imagined forms that come to mind unexpectedly, and compositions recalled from dreams. These fragments become the seed from which her paintings unfold. Working primarily in oil and mixed media on canvas, she builds each piece slowly, layer by layer, guided by feeling rather than fixed ideas. Every work unfolds at its own pace until the balance feels right. In her childhood, while other kids chased the sun, she found comfort indoors, lost among scraps of paper and worn-down pencils. Hours slipped by as she doodled faces, objects, and scenes from her overactive, restless imagination. Art was her play and quiet refuge, a place where she could live her dreams. Today, her paintings explore the contrasts between stillness and momentum, softness and structure. Through gentle forms and striking color, she creates pieces where viewers can pause, breathe, and feel a quiet sense of presence. She draws inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe’s sensitivity to organic form, Helen Frankenthaler’s fluidity and color relationships, Mark Rothko’s ability to evoke emotion through color and scale, and the symbolic depth of Salvador Dalí. These influences, together with her intuitive approach, fuel her exploration of abstraction’s capacity to hold memory, mood, and movement. Filadelfa deepened her practice of abstraction through coursework at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), an enriching experience that sharpened her vision and expanded her sense of possibility. She brings a strong sense of spatial awareness to her compositions, shaped in part by her background in interior architecture and design from the University of Hertfordshire. She paints from her home studio, often on Sundays when the world slows down and the light is kind. Her art is not just a visual language but a way of remembering who she is and what moves her.
