I was born in 1942 in war-ravaged Budapest. As a boy, I learned about the art of painting from my father who, at the time was a poor, yet very talented and well-recognized landscape artist in Europe. In my youth, I had to learn to fend for myself and escaped Hungary during the Freedom Revolution in 1956. I emigrated to Canada, where I was quickly initiated into the world of artists, art dealers and antique collectors. I learned about painting, art restoration, antiques, gold gilding and various other techniques, where I earned my living as an antique dealer, restorer and understudy. As a young man, I met Doris McCarthy, a talented painter who was a pupil of Arthur Lismer, a member of the Group of Seven. She was the first woman to become the president of the Ontario Society of Artists. She took me under her wing while I was studying art. With her tutelage and guidance, I launched several successful exhibitions in the 60’s and 70’s and enjoyed success as a young emerging artist. At the age of 28, I got married and put my painting career on hold to dedicate the next four decades of my life to providing for my family. I became an entrepreneur in various industries and achieved success in the business world. Then, at the age of 65, I revived my enthusiasm for painting and spent the next decade traveling across Europe and North America to soak up the works of classical and modern artists. At the age of 75, with all this knowledge in hand, I moved back to Hungary and began to paint again with an inspiration, curiosity and determination I never knew I had. I now travel between Canada and Hungary, my two homes, where I continue to create works of art that inspire me, challenge me and keep me on my journey of creativity, expansion, inspiration and never-ending learning. Creating art fills me with joy and an appreciation for life, which I hope to share with you, the individual, and the world at large.
