My latest creation is an homage to Bacchus, inspired by Caravaggio's timeless masterpiece. In my rendition, the classical deity is adorned with a distinctive touch of my present home in Mauritius. The most striking alteration lies in the crown that graces Bacchus' head. Instead of the traditional grape leaves, I've chosen three vibrant and colorful hibiscus flowers. These tropical blossoms not only introduce a sense of place but also symbolize the beauty and vibrancy of the island I currently call home. They are a nod to the two flourishing hibiscus plants in my front yard, a natural connection to the surroundings that inspire me. The background, awash in radiant gold leaf, carries an additional layer of symbolism. Through the golden surface, intricate sacred geometry patterns emerge, creating a sense of depth and mystique. This intricate backdrop serves as a visual representation of the complexity of existence, adding a layer of intrigue to the composition. Bacchus, the god of wine, displays rosy cheeks in my rendition, a telltale sign of his indulgence in the fruit of the vine. This touch of mirth and revelry is a celebration of life, a reminder of the pleasure and indulgence that wine and celebration can bring. This painting is not just a recreation but an evolution of a classic. It's a bridge between the past and the present, a dialogue between tradition and personal experience. It's a visual journey that speaks to the beauty of artistic interpretation, the importance of place, and the enduring allure of classical themes in contemporary art.

As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the natural world and the balance of life. Growing up on a family farm, I developed a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of the animals around me. This early inspiration led me to study fine art at the Pretoria Art Ballet and Music School, where I honed my skills and developed my unique style of large, expressive, textural paintings. My work is driven by my spirituality and the desire to connect with the viewer on a deeper level. Through the use of vibrant colors, bold brush strokes, and thick layers of paint, I create works that are both raw and powerful, inviting the viewer to experience the intensity of my artistic vision. Now, as a resident of Mauritius, I find myself constantly drawn to the vast ocean and the relationship between mankind and the environment. My paintings are a reflection of my own inner journey, as I use my paintings as a means of processing and communicating my deepest thoughts and feelings. My works are often characterized by their expressive, gestural brushwork and their use of intense colours and bold forms, which work together to create a sense of movement and energy. My paintings are a celebration of the power of emotion and the human spirit, and they invite the viewer to connect with me on a deep, personal level. Through my art, I seek to inspire and uplift those who encounter my work, encouraging them to embrace their own emotions and to find the beauty and meaning in the world around them.
