ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an original painting of the Still Life, that I started painting at the beginning of June 2020 and finished in December 2020. I have a summer house in Tetritskharo in the Georgian countryside, which is 1300 meters above the sea level, and the spring there comes later than in Tbilisi. It was early June when the quince trees started blossoming in my garden. Their blossoms are so fragrant that the whole garden was full of that aroma. The blossoms themselves are big and pinkish-white color. My wife put a few branches in a simple glass jar on the window in our kitchen and I couldn't resist that beauty. Painted on a gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted white, the picture is ready to hang. It is signed in front with my initials in Georgian "Z" "Sh" (ზ.შ.). Thank you for your interest in my work!

Hello! Thank you for looking at my art and reading about me! My name is Zurab Sharvadze. I was born (in 1959) and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia and since my early childhood, I have always had a passion for art. My stepmother was the first one to notice it and gave me an easel and a set of oil paints when I was 14. Since then, my easel and I became inseparable. Following my father’s steps, I got my BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear Physics and worked at the Physics Research Institute until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of the 90s, I became the full-time artist. It was also the time of apprenticeship with some famous Georgian Artists like Temo Machavariani. The beautiful landscapes of my country Georgia are the constant source of my inspiration: Caucasus mountains, valleys with vineyards, meadows full of alpine flowers, pine forests, clear lakes and springs, the Black Sea. I also always take my portable easel and set of oil paints, when I travel abroad. From early spring through late autumn, you can often find me painting outside in the plein air in the mountains or the windy narrow streets of old Tbilisi. During the winter months is mostly studio work of still lives and portraits. The great artists that inspire me the most are Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Degas, Mondrian. I participated in numerous Georgian and International Exhibitions. My works have been purchased by art collectors worldwide and can be found in the private collections in Great Britain, USA, Israel, Germany, France, Spain, and elsewhere. My paintings are all original and one-of-a-kind. All my canvases are built up with many layers of oil paints infused with flicks, drips and brushstrokes of paint resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
