Artist Statement I have blended contemporary abstract oil painting with traditional Realism watercolour. I delight in combining these genres as I love the softness of the watercolour in contrast to the vibrancy of the oil paint. I also enjoy the contrast of the Realism and abstract movements. My most recent works the ‘Grassland series’ In their non-disturbed state native grasslands are magnificent, and vibrant parts of Australia’s biological tapestry. Once covering vast tracts of our continent’s plains. The grassland are now among our most vulnerable and endangered habitats. My new body of work is an interpretation of wallaby and kangaroo grasslands supporting rich bird life. Our national landscapes display the beauty of our unique blend of flora and fauna, and I hope to express this rugged beauty in my art practice. I often depict Kangaroo Grass and Saltbush plains and include their bountiful wildlife. Through these contemporary landscape paintings, I hope to encourage a connection to our unique Australian environment in my newest body of work Grasslands 2018. Currently, the identity of all Australians is being influenced by our natural environment. People are growing aware of the need to protect our coral reefs, our forests and our grassland plains. Our environment is being discussed more and more, and I hope to stimulate care and concern for this place we call home through my artwork.
