“Cutting Ties” is a highly contrastive piece. I used ivory black to contrast the balls of yarn. Warm hues and cool hues are separated, with the warm being to the right of the figure. A single teal thread is pulled from the yarn in the foreground, and connects all the figures together.

Adam Norgaard (b. 1991) is an American artist working in Japan for the past 10 years. His works reflect the process of adapting to a culture different from his own. Working with oils as his main medium, he remains playful while also maintaining a finished quality. Adam attempts to bring the viewers into a foreign environment of their own by the atmosphere depicted in his paintings. In his own practice he is working at deviating from references and attempting to work completely from his imagination.
