ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An outward heartfelt expression of the internal embodied feelings of dancing. The flowing, swirling sensations of dancing are expressed through the movements of the rollers, brushes and palette knives via the paints and imparted onto the canvas through hand and body movements. 100 x 100 x 4cm, ready to hang, no framing required, edges painted as part of the piece.

From my home in Guildford (Surrey, UK) I create art from the creative centre within me often unaware of where the creative process will take me. My work is an exploration and an adventure in what it means to be human both individually and collectively. I believe that our own inner wisdom sits inside us waiting for us to listen and take notice. By connecting with and expressing my own moments of 'dawning', I hope to encourage, facilitate and inspire others to find their own moments of awareness, growth, awakening, acceptance, love and healing. I was raised on the Wirral Peninsula in England near the Dee Estuary that looks across to Wales. Growing up I was hugely influenced by the sport of badminton, a particularly popular sport in China and India. Me, my parents and sister began playing and all soon became hooked. In my late 40's I gained a masters world ranking in Racketlon. The reaction speed required to play badminton in particular and the immediacy of play are aspects from this incredible sport that I endeavour to bring into my creative work today. The feeling of flow and being 'in the zone' whilst playing is something that the Eastern traditions have studied for millennia. My interest in the Sanskrit language stems from such explorations as well as from practicing and teaching yoga. Sports demand an attunement of the primal gritty survival-of-the-fittest instinct at times. As the human race tackles massive environmental concerns and an incredibly fast rate of technological change and the Covid-19 pandemic, I hope that I can bring positive influence through my creative work on how to 'survive' when exhausted, depleted and wondering if we can continue. It seems that it is a time to dig deep as a human race across the globe. It seems that the whole world needs to embark on a healing process. I paint mostly in acrylics and oils, sometimes other media. My work tends towards abstract expression but can cover broad territory. We are multi-faceted and multi-dimensional beings and I like to dip into every aspect of my being to creatively express myself. Much as I developed capability in all areas of the 3 dimensional space around me as a badminton player, my creative skills also covering different realms, something I will continue to expand upon. I like to feel fully into the 'essence of what is' in the moments of creation of a piece. I currently sculpt in clay and wax primarily, casting often in jesmonite but also exploring other materials.
