ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I am inspired by architecture and the disappearing mid-century modern buildings and signage from that era. Commercialism, pop culture, graphic design and typography are all wrapped up a frozen moment in time, exposed to the elements that form these textural and graphic compositions. I hope to lend some nostalgia to the audience and remind them that not everything is permanent and there is still beauty in their fading glory. Each of the urban landscapes I paint come from my own experience—these are places I have visited and soaked up for inspiration in-person. They are not from a magazine or someone else's experience. This particular sign resided along 441 in Central Florida near Fruitland. It has been taken down to make room for "progress". I have chosen watercolor to express the moment. It's freshness and those happy little accidents also communicate something about the state of the elements in the scene.
