Originally inspired by watercolor techniques—using unusual materials for mark-making, the painting developed into a contemporary night sky lighting a series of hills & structures with a green moon. I chose a deep indigo to express the shadows and murky sky, green representing moonlight, and an occasional dip into gold metallic pigment to enhance the scene. Although I usually choose a more realistic approach in my watercolor paintings, I do enjoy loosening up to allow the paint itself to speak. Some of my strongest inspirations for this type of abstract work are Franz Kline, John Marin, and another artist friend of mine Lynda Mendelson.
