This work was inspired by Walter Waes's still lifes. There is something impressive in the way how he masterfully depicts fish, finding untrivial compositional solutions. The picture was painted on linen canvas, which I stretched, glued and primed by myself.

Anastasia Borodina is a contemporary artist whose work unites the precision of classical painting with a modern, emotional sensibility. Exhibited internationally — including with the Royal Societies in London, the Portrait Society of America, and the Almenara Collection in Spain — her paintings are held in private collections across Europe, the USA, and New Zealand. Now based in Manchester, Anastasia develops her Oriental Series, exploring the dialogue between classical form and contemporary perception. Working in traditional media, she examines how cultural symbols and rituals evolve in modern society, reflecting on the human search for meaning, identity, and beauty amid change. In recognition of her artistic contribution, she was elected Member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (MAFA) in 2024.
