ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I am attracted to still-life as an art form as it involves putting together an assemblage of household objects, color, and form into a thematic compositional arrangement. A number of my still-life paintings are concerned with the simple joys of life, leisure, and contemplation. For example in ”Kettle, Cup & Saucer” it depicts a simple breakfast setting with coffee, tea and a cut lemon bathed in chiaroscuro. I also like to explore the reflective qualities of metal and glass and show how they pick up the forms and color of nearby objects.

Hello, my name is Daniel Montoya Neiderbach. I work primarily in two-dimensional media such as painting, printmaking, drawings, mixed media, collage, graphic design, and digital art. Since I was a child I have lived, breathed, and have been surrounded by art. I was born in Madrid, Spain and raised in the picturesque city of Segovia, Spain. At an early age I remember looking at art books, walking around the house and trying to identify titles of art reproductions I saw hanging on the walls, and also observing my father paint. From the inception I gained a love and appreciation for art and art history which has inspired my work. In the 80s my family moved to Brooklyn, New York (my mother’s hometown). In 1992, I obtained a Bacherlor´s in Art History from Tufts University. At the same time, I pursued my art studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where I explored Painting, Drawing, Animation, Stained Glass, Serigraphy, and Printmaking. I later pursued a Master´s degree in Art History from Williams College, MA in 1994 with a concentration in Printmaking. In 1994, I attended Pratt Institute School of Art & Design in Brooklyn, New York and would further my interest in Printmaking and its various forms (Intaglio, Linocut, Aquatint, Etching and Serigraphy (silkscreen). My work has been exhibited nationally in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Texas, San Francisco, Florida, Ohio, Mississippi and internationally in Spain, Venezuela, and Panama and is represented in numerous private collections. Seven years ago I moved back to Madrid, Spain with my wife and daughter where I currently live and work.
