Jonas Peres is a Spanish visual artist based in Madrid, Spain, trained at the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles, with advanced studies in Modern Art at the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, New York.
His work explores how color can transform mood, how light can shape perception, and how presence can open a space for inner richness in contemporary life. Through luminous chromatic fields, subtle horizons and immersive atmospheres, Peres creates visual experiences that invite both emotional resonance and contemplation.
From his earliest works, Peres has been fascinated by the emotional power of color and its ability to influence atmosphere, perception and experience. Rooted in art history and informed by his studies in History and Divinity at Yale University, he began to question how the divine might be reimagined within contemporary visual culture. In subtle dialogue with the spiritual intensity of Mark Rothko and the cultural immediacy of Andy Warhol, he has developed a visual language that bridges color, light and presence. What began as vibrant pop-inflected compositions has evolved into a broader exploration of chromatic fields as vehicles for atmosphere, perception and emotional depth.
Each piece is developed through a layered compositional process before its material execution, using inks, pigments and varnishes on canvas or fine art paper to achieve depth, luminosity and resonance.
Jonas Peres has participated in exhibitions during the period of the Venice Biennale and at Art Basel Miami. His works are held in private collections in cities including New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Dubai, San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, Lisbon, Washington D.C., Madrid, Singapore, Berlin and Rome.
In addition to his studio practice, he has collaborated with major cultural institutions and brands such as Universal Music, Penguin Random House, Paramount Pictures, Netflix, National Geographic and New York University.
