Sanghee Ahn was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up across different places around the world - Europe, America, Africa and Southeast Asia. This multicultural background led her to develop her own uniquely rich visual archive reflecting the wide diversity of cultural worlds and natural sceneries. Similar to the automatism of Surrealism in the figurative portrayals, she plays with chance arrangement of the symbolic and cultural weights. The geometric wave pattern which is in contrast to the diagrammatic aesthetics of the figurative arena symbolizes the initially pure state of perception - before the entrance of any meanings and values. Using expandable units that can stretch forever and grids that do not assign any order or hierarchy, her pure abstract composition or element is like a total deletion of any visual algorithm which usually runs through the reproduced images in the digital and printed commercial and political world. Being an internationally active artist, Sanghee Ahn has not only been prolific in Korea but has also had shows in many cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, and Manila. Her art has been exhibited at and collected by various private and public national institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
