ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece was a combination of my abstract expressionist dab technique and illustrative portraiture. I hope the piece illicit and reflects the expression of the face in the piece, that of wonder and hope. I like that what that is is open to interpretation to each viewer and will be unique to them, but that overall it is an optimistic piece. I chose to apply a light gradient to her eyes to highlight the face and the emotion, because the face is designed to be able to blend into the piece as well. Almost like a magic eye painting from the 90s.

I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, and am currently based in Portland, OR. I studied music but quickly fell into graphic design and painting murals after school. I have been a full time artist for over a decade, the past several years primarily spent as a painter, specifically using a mixed media approach of acrylic and spray paint. My paintings are a mediation and study of the things that I find curious, particularly creating abstracts using color palettes found in our everyday surroundings. My paintings are often a study of these subjects, usually coming across as tranquil and inquisitive, though satire, anxiety, and desire do also work their way in. The bright colors found in most of my paintings help to alleviate and contrast the weight of a subject or to set a lighter tone. My pieces are available with or without stained floating frames, which are handmade in Portland, OR. Please contact me at or on Instagram .gif
