ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"The space has fascinated me since childhood. The idea of this exhibition was born from the completely new discovery of existence of a hypothetic large planet in the Solar System, named The Ninth Planet or The Planet X. Scientists’ supposition of a possibility that this planet exists emerged, when distribution of strange objects striving to connect had been noticed in the Universe(.html). NASA researchers proposed a hypothesis that they are probably exposed to a larger object’s gravitation", tells Gundega Duduma, the author. "I feel myself and the people next to me as incompletely studied, undiscovered planets. Everything is interrelated: the space, planets, people and nature – as interrelated parts affecting each other in a constant interaction. After all, we don’t comprehend the whole potential of our own energy and creative power. Through my works I want to share with you love, joy, strength and self-confidence." During this creative period the artist has turned to the abstract genre of painting, using large format canvas of various patterns and factures. Gundega finds, sews, upholsters and primes them herself. This is when the first contact with the work takes place. Additionally to abstractions, Gundega continues focusing on such actual subjects, as femininity, sensuality and style icons being typical in various periods.

I am a painter and sculptor born in 1977, Riga, Latvia. I am currently based in Riga, Latvia. My art is represents and honors the beauty of life. Every human experiences contradictions; beauty and darkness, love and loneliness, peace and chaos. There is no one answer, there is no beginning and no end, there are just a series of moments. I am very thankful to the universe and to God that I have been given this talent and a unique way to express how I see the World. My visual imagery and work technique exudes a unique aesthetic and a powerful positive energy. When I paint with acrylic and oil I layer emotions with impeccable substances and I captivate the viewer with a shared deep emotional experience. Another powerful medium, and a favorite of mine, is charcoal because it can create a velvet ebony shade that plays beautifully with gold, silver, and vibrant tones. I love to make my own canvases for paintings using fabrics with designs and textures. This creates a story with my art where the fabric acts as the first page to an artistic journey. For my textiles, I hand pick high quality furniture fabrics that I often sow together to showcase different patterns and textures. By adding multiple fabrics together you are able to observe the painting differently based the angle you view it from, this creates a very unique experience for the beholder. I use miscellaneous objects and materials such as pearls, gold and silver leaf, bronze tones, and other small objects to create a cohesive piece of art that looks multidimensional, fascinating, and alive.
