VIEW IN MY ROOM
This painting was inspired by conversation, and how we communicate as human beings through language: a collection of sounds and gestures that we make by continuously adjusting our lips, jaw, tongue, teeth, throat, chest, diaphragm, eyes, limbs... in order to control the flow of breath and information. However, the control is not total. Our bodies unconsciously telegraph our innermost thoughts through body language, and there's an entire science around spotting and dissecting liars. Languages change all the time according to the world around us, and each individual has personal associations with even the most mundane and widely used words. All of this creates a fractal, tectonic milieu in which for us to connect. I chose the media for their flexibility of representation and precision. Specifically with markers I was drawn to how we're taught to use these instruments among our first writing utensils as we develop language, particularly in Western education.
