Title of the painting: 'Pythia' Size: 150 x 100 cm (± 59,1 x 39,4 inches) Medium: this artwork is created with oil paint (upper layers) and acrylic paint (under layers). Painting will be shipped in a tube. Dated: 2021, signed and dated on the front. Made in my studio in Breda, The Netherlands. ‘Pythia’ is the 12th painting in the Modern-Myth series, a series of monumental paintings in which personal stories intertwine with old myths. Created in the tranquility of the corona pandemic, these are my painterly Grand Cru's that show a world full of visual adventure. Pythia is the common name for the girls who acted as oracles for Delphi. By inhaling a volcanic gas from Mother Earth, Gaia, they could make predictions about the future. Many great men of the earth came to the sanctuary to consult the oracle before, for example, starting a war. However, the Pythia in trance often spoke incoherently and the prediction could be explained in many ways. In a short docu I show you my latest series of paintings in my studio. In Dutch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPrjF3D0Irs&t=61s Living in a not-too-big city in the south of the Netherlands, the Dutch visual artist Sylvia Thijssen walks every day to her studio. It is a four kilometers walk wherein she crosses two small rivers. It is an excellent distance to free her mind of domestic affairs for to let the muse in. It is in this sunny, personal space that she paints her colorful canvasses, in active gestures big and small, like dancing, always trying to hear the colors sing together, searching for an energy wherein is also the peace of a moment in eternity, taking time as if the paint forms a structure that grew and matured. Thijssen is not thinking of her work as making paintings, no, these are adventures. Exciting adventures for her as a painter to make new experiences for the one who is looking at them.
