Art Description

Painting: Oil, Acrylic, Charcoal on Canvas.

Parr's working practice acts as a visual diary of her thoughts and feelings often based on the past, but sometimes on something seen, music heard, places visited and everyday experience.
Reise lll, was inspired by a visit to Norway's beautiful wild open spaces (in contrast with her cramped childhood experience living with a mother who was an extreme hoarder) the painting is an expression of escape and freedom from life’s clutter. The painting was completed over a period of time, with Parr feeling the need to return to it between spring 2018 and summer 2019.

When painting, she is completely immersed in the process. building a reverberating relationship with the canvas, a push and pull of chance and control. As much is taken away from the painting as is added, with constant building and washing of the canvas, aiming to invoke an atmosphere drawn from the process, the initial emotional trigger and the colour palette employed. The Artist uses palette knife, cloth, brush and sponge to add, remove, scratch, blur and work the paint. The painting is signed and dated on the side of the canvas and ready to hang.
