ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In this work is inspired by the unique architecture and decorative patterns that are so unique for the 13th century architecture of the city of Sanaa in Yemen. This painting is both figurative and abstract in form. With the creation of this painting I use various techniques such as fine painting, stamping and applying transparent layers of paint with the intention to let the colors and tones draw the viewer in. The patterns in the painting are derived from decorative patterns found on stone walls, wooden doors and plaster windows. Starting with a blank canvas I set out on a journey to find balance colored patterns in shades of red and blue and the predominant blue undertones.

I am fascinated by the diversity expressed in patterns and forms both in living creatures and the artistic expressions derived from them.
