ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting went through a series of transformations. I first started working on it about a week into the COVID-19 quarantine. It was panicky and emotional and dark. After a few months and a cross-country relocation, I revisited the piece multiple times, hoping to convey a sense of hope or comfort. I added cooler, comforting colors and textures to soothe the original painting, but the word "HOLD" and some of the original dark details still show through. The piece is an attempt at self-soothing-- a calming of the nerves-- during a period of intense anxiety and uncertainty.
