Keep it simple, don't overthink...its phrase I have a really hard time with as my mind requires complexity to the point of absurdity in order to be calm, but...It had been a really hard day in the studio. Basically landscapes and florals when its warm and figures when its cold and nothing grows...and/or somewhere in between... Looking back at a 30+ year bouillabaisse of creative adventure (and misadventure) the single most important lesson I can convey is to be original, paint for the soul and love what you do because the rest is just chaos theory disguised as a business. I'm basically a process guy, so I live for manic, adrenaline infused studio marathons filled with experimentation, fear, faith and literally tons of profanity; Constantly drunk with creative lust or hungover from bad ideas (that later turned out to be good) and all of it in steady chase of my truest self. The work itself opines the space between real and abstract and is anchored into the physical world using both nature and figure as muse. These genres are then bonded into a cohesive body through color. Being partially color blind, I use color more as a weapon of indelicacy where subtlety is tested, even strained, while still achieving a cosmopolitan of sublime. My works have been placed within corporate and private collections throughout the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
