Alberto Penagos. Born on October 22nd 1988 in Mexico City, his artistic traits were strong and began developing at an early age. On the year 2005, Alberto Penagos met Jesus Aguirre, who became his first mentor in art appreciation and later on, Aguirre introduced him to a diversity of artistic techniques and to choose the right materials, this enabled him to determine his incipient vocation for painting. In 2006 he began a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at “Universidad Internacional (UNINTER)” which he graduated in 2010. There is a clear influence from tenebrism artists such as Caravaggio, Jose de Rivera, Goya and Velazquez as well as inspiration from national and international renowned contemporary artists Rafael Cauduro, Gottfried Helnwen and Istvan Sandorfi to name a few. All of these painters have helped Alberto to achieve a better, more refined technique and an authentic message in accordance to his view on realistic figurative painting. Alberto has been invited to participate in a wide range of collective art exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad. Some of the most important ones being: Collective fall and summer exhibition at Casa Estudio de David Alfaro Siqueiros “La Tallera”, Cuernavaca, Morelos (2008 and 2009), art gallery ARTDICRE in the city of Mexico in 2001 in which he made a joint exhibition with master Francisco Toledo called “Arte y Locura”, in 2013 he presented his work in Zaragoza, Spain at the collective exhibit “Nuevos Valores IV” and during that same year he participated in a collective exhibition in Madrid, Spain “Antonio del Rincon” which selected one of his drawings. Starting on the year 2007, Alberto is invited to collaborate in a mural series “Siete Crimenes Mayores” entrusted by the supreme court of justice of the nation to “Rafael Cauduro”. Penagos was involved in the project from its inception to its conclusion and showing in the year 2009. The murals encompass an area of 280 square meters (3014 ft2) and are part of the current collection of the supreme court of Estados Unidos Mexicanos. To further improve his talent, Alberto has actively collaborated with other important painters in which master Luis Fracchia is of special mention (2010-2011). Alberto Penagos is a young artist that has been promoted by some of the best art galleries in Mexico such as “Arte XXI”, “Edgar Pozos Galería (México-Miami USA)” and most recently “Arte-libre (Spain)”.
