ABOUT THE ARTWORK

As I try to be a vegetarian for many reasons, this painting is a reflection of this process of aiming to see the world through the eyes of a lamb. In this thought-provoking oil painting titled "The Awakening," I present a a visual narrative that challenges our perception of the animals we consume and prompts us to reflect on the ethical implications of our choices. The scene portrays a sheep, adorned with a bib, and seated at a table. The sheep's eyes carry a deep sense of understanding, as if they possess an awareness of their destiny and the parallels between their lives and those of the creatures typically found on dinner tables. This empathy-inducing gaze serves as a stark contrast to the human figure in the background, who seems to be experiencing a moment of awakening and realization. "The Awakening" serves as a poignant reminder to question our preconceptions and reconsider our choices. It urges us to embrace empathy and compassion for all living beings, encouraging us to make informed and mindful decisions that align with a more sustainable and ethical way of life. Through this powerful work of art, viewers are invited to recognize the interconnectedness of all life and the transformative potential of choosing a vegetarian or plant-based path.

I paint fervently for long intervals, as if I were walking blindfolded through nature, feeling the color with my skin. I create from my art studio which is located on a farm in the South of Iceland. My artwork is represented in private and corporate collections in the United States, Switzerland, France and The Netherlands. Notable Exhibitions: Art Center Baer, Litla Gallery, Galerie Cècile Charron in Paris, Galleria del Arte Ill Milennio in Venice, Gallery Knoerle Baetig Fine Art, Galerie Mainau, Zurcher Kantonal Bank and AXA Winterthur in Switzerland. Internships In the Netherlands I apprenticed with the painter poet Anton Martineu, attended the Rietveld academy, and in India at the Honey Arts Modelling center I apprenticed in the "lost wax method" bronze casting technique.
