ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Since ancient times man has used art to tell stories. My work follows in this tradition with a commentary around global climate change. Often using wildlife to create a point of view, the paintings depict the results of the human impact upon nature. They have us question what is and what will be. Taking inspiration from the Pacific NW, Spencer's imaginative landscapes bring a distinctive perspective that communicates a mystical intrigue as well as a commentary about the environmental crisis. Using a unique visual language, his work is interwoven with stories and embedded with subliminal imagery that pushes and pulls the imagination. The Habitable Zone is a NW Visual tapestry that depicts the preciousness of our planet. From Mt Rainier to the ocean and with creatures from the air, ocean and land, HZ represents the sacredness of life. Found only in the habitable zone, planets can maintain water in liquid form.
