ABOUT THE ARTWORK

To See The Sky, this is in the family collection. I find the story behind the piece so interesting. I love painting inner stories, especially when I do commission pieces and other painting. Iconography is so important to me. Looking way back this was painted in 1988, and is a painting of my three children (two boys and girl) I actually stood on a ladder to get the images I wanted for the piece. They were always so cooperative and great models for much of my work. My work was very realistic early in my career and as many artists find they begin to abstract more. But I believe all artists need a basic understanding in rendering realism. So before its's time this painting was on what are we leaving for our children, hence the title "To See the Sky". At first glance it is three children holding hands and peering into a whole, but wait. If the whole is actually there my daughters shadow can not be visible across the hole?? The upper figure also shows a shadow in the circle. Note that there is a kite in the distance and at my son's feet in the lower right, the tail of the kite appears coming from the hole. Many ambiguities with this painting to make you question our world and is contemporary for a 2024. You can see from early paintings of mine mass and linear are very important to my composition. I hope you will be able to invest in a print. Also a beautiful poem was writteen on this piece. Enjoy.
