I enjoy painting cityscapes and internal landscapes, which blend into each other. I can experience cities like giant game sets - bright 3D environments I wander through, mostly as a guest. I've lived and worked in some of the greatest cities in the world including Tokyo, Paris, London, Berlin and Krakow. I've also spent time in New York and San Francisco through work. I was suddenly converted to Renaissance painting on a trip to Berlin, at the Gemäldegalerie. After this revelation, I started reading art history books and then studied art history undergraduate courses part-time at Birkbeck University, London. I obsessively visited art galleries and took up painting. I wanted to learn to paint using bright colours like my favourite Renaissance artists. I worked through a master course textbook for a year. I then started to paint my visions, which emerged as bright cityscapes and internal worlds inhabited by toy-like figures. I'm drawn to artistic game art and have found some similarities with Renaissance painters in the colour approaches. My favourite painters are Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Giotto di Bondone, Fra Filippo Lippi, Giovanni Bellini, Federico Barocci, Pietro Perugino and Johannes Vermeer. I've written about this at https://www.glennis.net/art-history/categories/colour
