ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The relationship between form and color in the pictorial field requires a visually symbiotic presence. The challenge revolves around selecting a direction as a vehicle for colors, in addition to choosing the appropriate color and light for that purpose. This interaction creates a primary spatial illusion, along with side effects. I think areas of precisely defined colors, when pitted against each other, compete for dominance. In general, my compositions remain formal and symmetrical to be triggered by unexpected changes in color and light.

Graduated in Architecture at the "Ecole d'Architecture Paris Val-de-Marne", optical and kinetic art have always figured in the artist's identity. His abstract proposal intends to break the existing conservative relations and create new perspectives through textures, optical states, and movements. The result of this search, the artist calls "abstract-chromatic-lyrical", creations in which he explores abstraction through permanent rehearsals of visual color movements, geometric patterns, chromatic progressions, rhythmic musicality, and contrasts. "I feel my creations inserted in a cosmic dimension where vocabulary and plastic grammar are infinite. The representation of reality derives exactly from my kinetic understanding of space and form." From a technical perspective, the resource he uses is acrylic on canvas. Born in 1970 in Colombia, Bemgi lived for years in Europe until he moved, in 2006, to Curitiba in Brazil, where he currently lives. His work as an artist had been dormant during his years of residence in the old world, having resurfaced strongly during his first months in Brazil. According to him, since then he has lived an intense creative routine, the result of which is an extensive collection of works conceived on Brazilian soil. In the last decade, the experience in large centers such as Caracas, New York, Paris, and Barcelona were also fundamental to mature his own concepts in visual arts.
