This oversized artwork was painted as a stage backdrop for The Vagina Monologues. It was hand painted over 2 weeks by my partner and I, with a fire evacuation taking place during the midst of it's creation. At one time I said goodbye to the work unsure if I would see it again. The artworks creation was captured by stop motion camera which you can view on the youtube link below. On NYE 2019 the work was hung behind the stage for the gay and lesbian tropical fruits festival. As the piece was created for stage it has been painted on a flat canvas piece of 380 gram cotton duck, the largest I could source in Australia. The work has been stapled top and bottom to length of 1 inch pine dowel, the sides have been hemmed using a light fishing line. 4 hooks are along the top dowel and 2 on the bottom. At present the work unrolls and hangs much like a scroll or tapestry. There is plenty of room for the canvas to be stretched as extra width has been allowed for this. I have painted to the very top and bottom of the canvas edging for use onstage, knowing that the top and bottom edging is normally hidden by the stretched frame anyway. This impact of this artwork is emotive and moving upon viewing. Lots of gasps fill the room. It has a healing energy in it's presence. I am happy to supply some additional images upon request. Feel free to contact me with and questions or for a commission painting. YouTube video here. https://youtu.be/-UTSmZwwoQM

I am a feminist artist exploring, sexuality, beauty, queer culture and the natural world. My artworks combine elements of drawing and painting and I take my time to explore the textures and layers of paint on the substrate. By using use emotive, saturated colour and gradients of light, I aim to create an essence of the divine in my work. I make art that acknowledges the super power and life giving properties of the Yoni, and life within the female experience. My work responds to societal erasure, censorship and the impact of the patriarchy on the lives of those who identify as female. I desire to empower the viewer and influence their perception of beauty by encouraging them to seek a viewpoint outside of the orthodox social constructs. When people experience my work, I want them to experience beauty and divinity, not erotic objectification or sexualization of the vulva.
