ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspired by Ferdinand Hodler and his great Mountain Paintings. The early light on the mountainside, the dark shady gleaming rocks with the snow on the peaks and the first springgreen in the bleak sunshine of the morning give you a somehow scary and powerful impression of these steep rockfaces. Only calmed and eased by the still waters inbeded in these high mountains.

A pinch of Hodler a wiff of modern graphics and a abundance of me It began in early childhood, after visiting artschool and an apprentiship as a windowdresser came the love for any sort of pictures, comics, photos, oils, watercolour etc. After extensive travels in Europe, Russia and the Middle East as well as a couple of years in Scandinavia trained my eye for extreme light and shade situations and showed a great love for nature and landscapes. The life in South Africa extended the love and understanding of colour and athmosphaere. Back in Switzerland I found all these aspects in the works of the Impressionists especially Ferdinand Hodler, Cuno Amiet, Felix Valoton, Giovanni Giacometti etc. Their deap understanding and interpretation of mountains and landscapes with their allways changing colours and impressive monumental structures lead to my own interpretations. These are most often put in my studio early in the morning with nthe means of watercolour or oils and on the base of scetches, watercolours, textfragments and photographs, on to paper, wood or canvas. "But he eye realizes more then there is space on a canvas" witch means an unending yet inspiring struggle for me.
