If you close your eyes half and you look at this painting you may find about 8 bigger circles in the background flowing into each other. All those bigger circle you see, the represent big hugs. Every small dot and small dot/circle and small dot with X represent many more hugs. Niederhauser builds layers from the surface of each canvas to present dots of color that appear in 3D. This manipulation of space through color change and combination challenges the viewer’s perception of depth. CANVAS: This particular work is painted on a high quality woodpanel canvas which is 3.5cm deep and collaged with vintage bookpages on all 4 sides. SERIES: It is part of her new series: hugs and kisses INSPIRATION: I was very fascinated during packing of artworks to send overseas and discovered the bubble wrap paper with bubble and started to paint on those. It ended up with my new successful collection. COMMENTS FROM THE STUDIO The base layer of this work is a collage of bookpages, I add bubble wrap paper and 4 layers of highest grade artist resin. Most bubbles are fully coveres with resin ans swim in it and are still visible as bubbles, in some parts of the artwork the bubbles are half in the resin. It gives a really nice play. The bookpages are on some parts still visible. I love how it turned out.

Transforming memories and feelings into paintings - a diary written in color. Martina Niederhauser paints depth, feeling, and beauty into her portraits of women. She seeks to share without words, painting the canvas as a “diary written in colors” with communicative forms and conjunctive lines: all expressing her life and her world. Inspired by line, Niederhauser paints on a highly textured patterned backgrounds composed of vintage book pages and sheet music. The collages which make up her backgrounds enhance the aged character of old paper from all over the world. Depth is first created in her backgrounds, then brought forward by varied layers of painting techniques as Niederhauser incorporates watercolor, pastel, oil, and gouache and more into her primarily acrylic portraits. Niederhauser’s major themes are life, emotion, feeling and relationships, and impactful moments and events from her inspirational life. Born 1977 and raised in Switzerland, Niederhauser has worked to become a full-time artist after living across three continents (Europe, Asia and Northamerica) and working in the corporate marketing world. When asked what she would do if she couldn’t be an artist Niederhauser says: “I would ask myself what is preventing me from becoming one.” With many successful years of work as an artist, including three studio years in Shanghai and three years in Chicago, Niederhauser's now based in Sarnen, Switzerland with her husband and her teenage daughter.Collected throughout the World, Niederhauser’s paintings can be found in many public, corporate and private collections. Her artwork has been shown in Affordable Art Fairs in London and Amsterdam and solo and group exhibitions and artfairs in Innsbruck, Berlin, Sylt, Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna and all over Switzerland.
