We were there when there was snow around. I did not see the bright color of the lake, about which so much is said. But with each step along the snowy paths, I felt calmer and quieter inside. And this is exactly what I needed at that moment.

I am Kateryna Pysarenko, a Ukrainian watercolor artist, born in 1987. I earned a Master’s degree in Graphic Design and spent over ten years creating prints for clothing and tableware. In 2017, I transitioned to traditional painting, focusing on watercolor. For me, watercolor is a metaphor for life. It can be dynamic and spontaneous, with colors blending beyond our full control, guided but not forced. Or it can be calm and quiet, with a story gradually emerging, layer by layer. Just like in life, each previous layer influences the next; the past stays with us, shaping the future as we create in the present. As an artist, I explore the relationship between the outer world and our inner experiences. My work searches for moments of peace and stillness in a hectic world—those pauses when we can be truly present, feel deeply, and notice the details around us. My forced emigration in 2022 has also had a profound impact on my artistic journey. I now examine how we adapt to new realities, finding both commonalities and differences between cultures, while strengthening my connection to my heritage. My current work is a blend of personal reflection and an appreciation for the world around us.
