ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Constructing his photographs through gesture and the environment, Ricardo Maio harmoniously integrates elements such as the body and the landscape, light and mud, stones and skin. Figure and background intertwine and blend, forming images that gift us with a sense of estrangement and beauty, discovery and visual pleasure. Volcanoes, deserts, abandoned quarries, roads, trees, throughout the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands, are part of this visceral essay on body and land. A project that began in 2019 and will continue to bring to light the power of these images. These mimetic images. Through the interior of Catalonia, you can find pieces of fallen trees that resemble a large compass rose. Digital photography with digital retouching. printed on HAHNEMÜHLE PHOTO RAG® METALLIC 340 gr Comes with signed & numbered certificate of authenticity. for more information:

Multi-media artist, Ricardo Maio, was born in Bahia, Brazil. From a very young age, he lived and traveled throughout the entire country in search of experiences and inspirations. His works range from portraits, advertising photography, 3D, video, and cinema. His first contact with professional photography was through Brazilian writer Roberto Freire, a friend who introduced him at the age of 18 to important Brazilian photographers such as Walter Firmo, Luiz Garrido, Peter Feibert, and Ana Lontra Jobin within the Econews Agency in Rio de Janeiro. In 2004, the publisher Clio released the book "Pão de Açúcar, a marca do Rio" featuring his landscape photographs and texts by Nilza Resende. Currently residing in Barcelona, he works in the field of photography, cinema, and video for advertising companies in Brazil and Spain. Having the body as the central theme of his recent works, he seeks through bodily expression the mimetic and poetic alignment between space, light, and gesture, finding the image through words and poetry.
