ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Part of a series of self portraits titled: My Self, taken in moments of madness, hopelessness, happiness, inspiration, frustration, sprightliness, euphoria and utter non-chalence. I was alone with my camera and 2 meters of red Tulle fabric. Thought I would wrap my head with the fabric and take a head shot. The fabric was terrifically unruly and would not stay in place so much that I grabbed it with my hand and managed to photograph the one eye only. This image was the one for me. I proceeded to add eye makeup in post production to elevate her stature and what would do that better than a captivating royal Egyptian kohl adornment of the eye. Finally I painted around the image so the viewer concentrates on the eye, the veil, the disquietness and edginess of the hand. Hence Miss Alexandria… The woman is veiled however she is not hiding. She is emerging, exposing, prohibitively and radically peering with determination. Look into my eyes!
