A series of photography from my time as an artist-in-residence in Upernavik, Greenland. This series of photo's is in complete contrast to the series of paintings that I created from my residency in Upernavik. Whilst the painting dealt with the theme of Death and Transfiguration, and were thusly painted black, the photo's depict a surreal, eary, almost fantastical place, as colours and light verge slightly or wholly into exaggeration and brightness. This use of manipulated colour and brightness creates a detachment from reality as we know it and temporary suspension into the world of fantasy and imagination.

Ireland
I'm an Irish Visual Artist and Archaeologist and I specialise in Painting and Drawing. My artwork uses, what I like to call, ''geographical shapes/compositions'', to create an anchoring or framework for an in-between space plane of archaeological inquiry. This plane explores an archaeology of the unknown, the subconscious and the metaphysical through materiality, automatism and imagination. The need for the archaeologist to break the soil in order to reveal hidden layers is a practical necessity. Hence, I like to build up layers of media and then erase (referred to as ''additive subtraction'' by Jasper Johns), so as to reveal what lies beneath...which are usually, pockets of colour, areas of intense light or even the sheer canvas itself! This space-plane for introspection can also find me mark-making and sometimes creating forms and images from my imagination. This introspective plane seems to also imbue a spiritual quality in my works, which can also be said, too, of the often heavier textured ''geographical shapes'' when they capture the light! All in all, there seems to be a fusion between the physical and metaphysical which entices the viewer to touch the canvas. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Thanks for your interest, Jackie.
