About Jackie Flanagan

I am an Irish Visual Artist and Archaeologist, and I specialise in Painting and Drawing. I centre my work around my passion and interest for all things mystical and unknown. Undoubtedly, this fascination was spurred on by the fact that I lived next door to an Iron Age Hill-fort as a child, and thus fostered and cemented a curiosity for all things archaeological, in particular to all things Celtic. These were a people who shared a deep appreciation for both the natural and spiritual world. They believed that the physical world was spiritual, and, the spiritual world was physical. Hence, my artwork places a great emphasis on both materiality and immateriality, whether by overloading the canvas with heavy layers of paint and using board, or by erasing paint to reveal light. All in all, I hope my sentiment is expressed in my work!
