About The Artwork

Hiking in Tinos island, an island full of schistolithic stone, quartz and marble. In between my sculpting courses and hiking i collect pieces of stone, marble quartz and wood. The interaction of materials with the physical need of creation, location, imagination creates the artwork. This sculpture is composed from schistolithic stone and quartz in a white marble from Tinos island. All pieces were collected from different hiking paths of the island. The head is separated and not glued. It fits and stands. Dimension of sculpture is 30x9x9.5 and 6x14,5x15 for the base. Total dimensions 36x14.5x15

I am inspired by the beauty and mystery of the natural world. My sculptures celebrate form and texture and hover in the relationship between light, shadow and atmosphere. I am concerned with the search for inner truth and the purpose of existence. The journey we have taken, a journey inward to retrieve memories that exist hidden within us, poses questions both to me as I create and to the viewer. Who he is, what he is, where he comes from, what he carries, what he wants to tell us now, what he is doing in this world, what his purpose is, where he lived, how he breathed, how he moved. These are the questions that arise every time I hold a new piece of stone or a new idea in my hands. In many of my sculptures I bring the material to such a stage that the viewer often questions the material himself. I enjoy and always encourage viewers to touch my sculptures, because I believe that through touch they can feel the sculpture as a new being, since touch is a sense of contact with other bodies. I am constantly experimenting with different marbles and techniques to express new life forms and personalities, creating an eclectic body of work. I complete the intuitive process of form making with great attention to harmony and detail. I want the end result to look natural and not stylized. Most of my sculptures are textured, a skin, in an attempt to reflect the diversity in both human existence and a general level of variation. Light is part of the sculpture and an integral part of the creative process, not only because marble is the material of light, but mainly because it is through it that the character of each work emerges best.
