Saatchi Art is proud to present Coup De Coquette, an exhibition of new works by Los Angeles artist, Annie Terrazzo. Defining her style as “trash portraiture,” Terrazzo uses found objects, newspapers, and magazines to create highly detailed, vintage-inspired works. In this series, Terrazzo calls the viewer to take control of their own narratives and empower them to construct their own realities. Playing a fine line between realism and surrealism, her subjects reappear in various works, moving from one to another and often spilling over the traditional boundary of an artwork - the frame.
“At some point or another, we’ve all felt held back by our surroundings, our jobs, our relationships,” says Terrazzo. “These feelings shouldn’t be ignored. Often, they can’t be ignored. The subjects featured in this series defy expectations and dare to change their circumstances no matter what the consequences are.”
Since graduating from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Terrazzo has exhibited widely across the US and Europe, and her works are held in private collections around the world; as well as the permanent hotel collections of The Figueroa, Freehand Los Angeles, and Thompson Hotels alongside other prominent artists such as Chuck Close. She has exhibited at SCOPE, Aspen Art Fair, and The Other Art Fair, as well as group exhibitions, with jurors including Timothy J. Potts, Director of The Getty Museum, and Neal Benezra, the Director of SFMOMA. Most recently, Terrazzo was invited to exhibit at the Cornell Art Museum, alongside Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
