ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This drawing/painting, a riff on one of Herman Melville's short chapters in his novel Moby Dick, features two large pages from the chapter and a dance of others in the margin, noting both the monumental scale and myriad fragments that characterize the novel. It is one of a large series of drawing/paintings and mixed media collages (2016-present) inspired by specific books: Moby Dick, At Swim-Two-Birds by O'Brien, Mason&Dixon by Pynchon, Infinite Jest by Wallace, Tristram Shandy by Sterne, White Guard by Bulgakov, Mrs. Dalloway by Woolf, and other texts that are not books, including product packages and advertising. I enjoy making these and would be delighted to take commissions for a drawing or collage of any size inspired by a particular book, specific page of a book, or any other text (signs, advertisements, Wikipedia pages, etc.) of your choice. I'd love to collaborate on this.
