About The Artwork

I use my creativity as a way to better understand myself and others and find it a helpful medium through which to explore and resolve problems. My work is centred on personal growth, emotional wellbeing and physical health. The things I create reflect my inner landscape. They are me looking out and making a statement. While on the surface they appear pretty and innocent, superficial even, beneath they are hiding a deep truth, waiting to be massaged into life. When I feel hopeless, lost, worthless and empty, art restores me. When I feel anxious and restless, art calms and grounds me, replacing the pieces that life and living and the people and things that I rub up against have taken away. Pinning things to an external fabric changes them, making them less threatening and more real, reducing their volume so that they lose their spikes. No matter how difficult, how hard to instigate or how uncomfortable to maintain; for me, the effort and the continued pursuit are worth it. I call my work ‘Embroidered Truths’, because each piece refers to and represents a specific period in my life. Lifted unedited, it bears testament to whatever element or event it was necessary for me to exorcise. If you would like to buy or commission a piece of Crib Craft, please see my website for details (www.rebeccalatherton.wordpress.com/crib-craft).
